When is stealing not considered stealing???

NEVER.

NOT EVER.

Buying a pattern does not give you the rights to reproduce and redistribute the pattern.  Nor does it give you the right to purchase an epattern and "pass it along" or print it out and resell it.

It's been brought to my attention that there are some out there, doing just this thing.

It's making me rethink my decision to sell epatterns.....................................

Shame on you, you know who you are and now, SO DO I.

Maureen, that is horrible that someone is taking credit for your patterns. it seems that we are hearing about this alot lately with different bloggers and I think it is terribly sad that some have no talent to create for themselves. I am sorry this has happened to you.

epatterns have brought us all so much convenience...who in the world would try to re-sell an epattern? Good to educate folks that this is not kosher practice so they don't ruin it for the rest of us. Your patterns are awesome.

Maureen...So sorry this has happened to you!!! Yes it is stealing! We all enjoy your creativity so much and to think someone wants to capitalize on your work. It is shameful! YOU DESERVE THE CREDIT FOR ALL YOU CREATE AND THEREFORE NO ONE DESERVES THE PROFIT EXCEPT YOU!

Hi Maureen.. sorry to hear that people are taking advantage of your patterns, by giving, sharing or selling them...

Honesty is always the best policy. I feel like when I pay for an e-pattern, it's mine and I have no desire to let someone who hasn't paid for it use it. Let them buy their own. I love the convenience of e-patterns, and people who steal will always find a way whether it's an e-pattern or not. Shame on them!

What a shame. Can't believe that someone would actually think they could do this and get away with it. So sorry this has happened to you. I hope you find them and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

Sorry to hear Maureen that you are having problems with stealing, I have read this alot lately in blogland and seen it for myself on ebay.Saddens me to think these low lifes try and get away with it and that there are people out there that support them, by purchasing the patterns. If nobody would purchase from them, they wouldn't stay in business long! Such a shame that these people have to ruin it for the rest of us who support all you wonderful artists!!

I don't do e patterns but recently a fellow blogger took my idea after asking me to do a tutorial(which I thought would be for people to enjoy for themselves) Then sold them on facebook and on her blog as her own idea. She copied from several other bloggers as well.Frustrating but hard to track down unless you got copyrights. So sorry you and others have to deal with dishonest people it always comes back to them in the end.Warm Blessings!~Amy

If you know who they are, then you have every right to approach them and demand them that they stop right now.
I purchase your patterns all the way here to Australia..and treasure them. I am very sorry that someone has taken it upone themselves to do that...in the crafting world I often wonder why people do this...we all want the same , to be able to create something unique....good luck

This is terrible , why is it that one person always has to ruin it for others. I love your patterns Maureen especially now you have e-patterns , they make it soooo much better for those who live in other countries like myself here in Australia.I have been a doll maker for many years and only make and sell what has been permitted by the designer. I always respect the fact that they are your design and we are privileged to be able to share them with you.
I am very sorry someone is causing you stress buy their own greediness.

I'm glad you said something on your blog. People need to know that it is wrong to forward and share e- patterns with their friends. Reselling them is wrong too. We are not talking big bucks people if you want a pattern people then pay the designer for her design -she deserves it!

Hi Maureen,
What a shame! I love the e-patterns, beacuse you can have them instantly! I sure hope that you contacted that Re-seller and let her know that it's a no-no!If she is that brazen about stealing your paatterns, maybe you should put her site out there with a recommendation "not to buy from her" I am sure there are a lot of people who are clueless that they are buying "stolen goods"
Keep up the good work!

Maureen, I don't know that it's an epattern thing. I see it all the time w/ paper patterns, converted to epatterns by someone else (who claims it as thier original) on sale or giving it as a free pattern. It is disgraceful that people feel the need to do such things. The theft is a double whammie, they steal your pattern and income, but then your creativity. God Bless you. Keep up the good work.

that is hapenning specially in Brazil.. there is a person who is selling patterns. this person copies the pattern and then she sells it like she is the one who designs it... shame

I love e-patterns as well for their convenience and I figured it helps out the seller as well since they don't have to package and ship. I always give credit to the designer when I sell something made from a pattern. I would feel guilty about someone thinking I had the great idea...couldn't imagine taking credit for it if it wasn't mine! I feel guilty when I owe someone 10 cents and do get it back to them right away, lol. Hope this gets cleared up for all parties involved.

It's good that you are blogging about this Maureen. I think if we would all keep our eyes out for this dishonest practice and called the dishonest sellers out for doing it, it could make some of them think twice before continuing this practice.

All my feelings on this have just been written by 22 comments. The nerve of some people, they hurt themselves and us too. I want you to be paid so we won't lose you.

Hi Maureen,

I understand your concern about this and I hope you dont remove your e-patterns since this is done with paper patterns also. I have seen a couple of your paper patterns in other sites and this was without having e-patterns yet. The ones who do this, do this either way. They don't care. I have seen lots (not all) of people from Chile and Brazil and I have there sites bookmark. They have tons of someone who I wont mention but you probably know who sells on ebay her patterns. She only sells paper patterns and probably one person purchase them and then scan them and make it publish to everyone. But how can we stop them? Its not an easy task!!!! It sure is a shame. They have changed a little how they work. Now they put the picture of the pattern they want or the one they have for exchange and who has it or who will exchange it will email them. Its a way of Picasa not closing there accounts. But Picasa is not the only one who they use. I have search and seen this for a looooong time. Thanks for sharing. Its the first time I share this with anyone. Blessings!

just catching up to speed...THAT IS HORRIBLE!!!! The amazing creation of the Epattern...has given us the benefit of wanting it yesterday speed in creation....and for someone to disrespect you (or any other artist) by sharing or reselling...is a slap in the face to all your time and efforts....put into it....i'm terribly sad...you have to go thru this....sending out a big hug to you and a kick in the.....for the THIEVES....

say it ain't so. i LOVe getting your e patterns and others as well. i sure hope you will kkeep publishing the email style, i think no matter how one produces them, they still are those who will always try to steal and profit from others. what a shame.

The sad thing is that there are always a small few who ruin things for the rest of us honest people out there. I pay for my e-patterns and don't feel compelled to let ANYONE have mine, they can pay for it too! There is no grey middle ground here, it is black and white stealing. Sorry for this, I am sure you aren't alone unfortunately. I hope you get it worked out. Blessings to you...
